FAQs
What Should I Bring With Me?
Before you arrive, our staff will provide you with a packing list that outlines what you may and may not bring with you. We will go over this list once again during your program orientation, and you will receive a copy in your Patient Handbook. Please reference our What to Bring page for a more detailed list.
May I Have Visitors?
Loved ones can be an important part of treatment and recovery. Your Primary Counselor will contact your loved ones to arrange dates and times for family programs and visitation. Patients attending our detox program do not have visitation time. At this time, visits are limited to only long-term clients and are being held virtually.
May I Call My Family?
During your treatment stay, your Primary Counselor will help you arrange calls to your family.
What if I Can’t Afford to Pay for Treatment?
Turning Point is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. We have access to several funding sources which you may qualify to participate in. If you do not qualify for one of our funding sources we offer services on a sliding fee scale, which means we can work with your budget. Visit our payment options page or contact our staff for more information.
How Can I Be Sure My Treatment Will Remain Private?
Turning Point is committed to protecting the privacy of our patients. We adhere to all federal and state laws that protect such confidentiality.
Do You Admit Teenagers Into Your Program?
The Paterson location is for adults only (18 and over) however we do have an adolescent program, Aspire Counseling Center, located in Pompton Plains. Please visit that link under the Programs tab for more details.
How Long Is Your Program?
Turning Point's length of stay varies by clinical necessity. Counselor and client will work together through an individualized treatment and discharge plan to determine duration.
What Type of Accreditation or Licensing Does Your Program Have?
Turning Point is fully licensed by the State of New Jersey and accredited to offer rehabilitation services and treatment for drug and alcohol addiction. Our programs are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). All of Turning Point’s treatment programs are based upon the client placement criteria set by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM).
May I Leave for My Court Date?
Although we encourage our clients to address their court matters prior to admission, we make every effort to comply with our clients’ legal obligations, including court appearances. Nevertheless, we also try to arrange for the postponement of your court dates until your treatment is over. Clients attending our detox program may not leave due to being under a doctor's care, however, we will communicate with legal authorities and adjust your situation whenever possible.
Is Medical Detoxification Offered as Part of Residential Treatment?
Turning Point offers sub-acute, medically monitored detoxification from opiates, alcohol and sedatives. After detox, we assess all clients through aftercare planning to help them facilitate a continuum of care at our facility or that of another licensed treatment provider. For clients with co-occurring disorders, we provide both detox and stabilization via psychotropic medications.
